Updating references in EndNote

Do you need to find PMCIDs for references already in your EndNote library? Do you want to update references that are missing abstracts or other pieces of information? You can with EndNote X5’s Reference Update function, which allows you to compare a reference in your library with an entry in an online database (PubMed, XRef, or Web of Science).

1.  Select and double-click a reference in your EndNote library to open it.
2.  Click on the Update Reference icon in the upper left.

3.  In the window that opens, you will see a new record on the left & the original record on the right.  The fields that are different are highlighted.

4.  You can update all fields or empty fields only.  You can update one reference or a group of references.
